Campaigning for free periods in Oxford!

Access to period products is a human right

The Oxford Period is a campaign for free periods at the University of Oxford, and against period poverty everywhere.

We recognise that although some colleges and departments of the University have existing schemes to provide free period products, there are great disparities in the range provided, ease of access, and origin and amount of funding. This must be addressed. We hope that through our work we can encourage the University to establish a long-term, adequate standard of free period care provision across all its colleges and departments.

The Oxford Period is also aware of the social aspects of period poverty and that many of its challenges are due to a grievous lack of education surrounding menstruation. We look forward to organising events and sharing resources in order to start important conversations around periods in Oxford, and to raise awareness of period poverty whilst raising funds for charities that fight against it.

The Oxford Period Survey

The purpose of this survey is to better understand the state of period poverty within our community so that we, the Oxford Period, can build a case and put pressure on the governing body to provide free products across all colleges and departments of the university.

At Cambridge, the Cambridge Period Project were able to successfully put pressure on their Vice Chancellor with the help of data gathered from similar surveys. In a country where students are among the most at risk of period poverty, collecting data from this survey is a vital next step to help us enact change here in Oxford.
